On 6/19/09 the initial telephone meeting of the fundraising working group took place. The initial discussion revolved around reasons for fundraising. These included possible ads (print or electronic), campaign materials, rallies, venues, etc. Specific activities would depend on decisions of other working groups (media, materials and messaging, outreach, etc.), but should remain focused and clear to engender maximum support amongst coalition members and provide maximum exposure for the single payer message.

Because of intensifying health care reform debate in Washington DC, it was felt that a short term time frame for fundraising was needed. A goal of raising $10K in the next 2 weeks was discussed. A general appeal for contributions at the next Single Payer Coalition meeting on June 24 was recommended. A $1000 challenge grant during the meeting is to be offered. An additional $1000 challenge grant is to be offered for the follow-up effort which is to conclude on July 8.

Aileen offered to author a flyer to be distributed at the Coalition meeting June 24. Envelopes would be distributed for mail-in contributions during the meeting.

Finally, there was discussion about 501c3 vs 501c4 mechanisms and how the funds would be handled.
