Minutes 6/23/09

On the call: Dorli Rainey, Clayton Wheeler. Ruth Knagenheljm, David McLanahan

The committee will focus on two projects and coordinate with the other committees:

1. We should focus on bringing our message to the uncommitted and grassroots. Contact community groups offering to provide a speaker for their events. These groups would likely be multi-issue groups such as church groups, local political clubs, service groups, etc. Single issue groups already focused on health care reform probably are already sophisticated on the issues and reform proposals.  Work with the Action Committee on community events.

2. Speakers Bureau. We had 7 people volunteer to be a speaker at the first meeting: Dorli Rainey, Crig Salins, Larry Kalb, David McLanahan, Nancy Spaeth, Ken Fabert, and David Baughan.

We need to consider a speaker'’ training session based on consistant messaging and materials.

United for Single is a new coalition of organizations that are committed to continuing to advocate for single payer as the gold standard to work together to build and amplify our strength and impact during this crucial period when Congress and the Administration are negotiating health care reform alternatives. The focus of our activities needs to be on our representatives and building grassroots support for the only real hope for achieving health care justice
